During my first PostDoc I was lucky to join a research cruise exploring the risks of deep sea mining. During the cruise I was collecting deep sea manganese nodules and was extracting DNA and RNA from the nodules. The work on board and the deep sea mining efforts are described in my Science communication Articles, Geomar Ocean Blogs, and Newspaper Articles.
